New Year and a new you. Many people have New Year’s resolutions to get in better shape, improve their nutrition, or similar health goals. You might start a new meal plan and it calls for chicken, brown rice, broccoli, etc. Everything seems to be steamed or grilled and after a while, everything starts to taste bland or boring. The solution? Spices. Spices will not only help improve the taste of your food, but they have many added health benefits. By using different spices you can reduce inflammation, lower blood sugar, and may reduce the risk of cancer. However, be careful about buying pre-made spice blends.
Majority of them tend to contain a lot of sodium and may end up doing more harm than good. The best option golf fitness Scottsdale is to make your own spice blend. That way you know exactly what is going into it and you can control the amount of salt content. So which spices and why should I be consuming them? Cayenne, Cinnamon, Cumin, Turmeric, and Ginger just to name a few. But there are so many different spices with even more benefits. Don’t be afraid to try new tastes these years.
Cayenne pepper’s active ingredient, capsicum, has been shown to increase circulation and aid in weight loss. Try adding this spice into fajitas, tacos, or even lemonade or a little kick.
Cinnamon has antioxidant properties and helps lower blood sugar. You can add this spice to your oatmeal, sweet potatoes, and my personal favorite is to add a little into my morning coffee.
Cumin can help the absorption of nutrients and aid in digestion. I mainly use cumin to flavor different Mexican dishes, but it can also be used in lentil soups or even hummus! Turmeric’s active ingredient, curcumin, has been shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer properties. This spice can be added to cauliflower, curry dishes, or added into salad dressings.
Ginger may help with nausea or an upset stomach. It also has some anti-inflammatory effects. Ginger can be used in stir-fry dishes, fish marinades, or you can even make your own tea with it.
